Called to be a worthy vessel
By Pastor Aderemi ADELUGBA,
Our theme for the month of July focuses on our relationship, commitment and commission to serving our Lord Jesus Christ. This month is about renewing our vigour and strength for Christ.
The meaning of vigour is to have an active strength or force. It is also to have the physical and mental power, and the vitality to push further. If you must serve God according to His expectation, your energy level must be high, which means, you would definitely need the Holy Spirit, and you must be focussed.
Vessel is a hollow container, especially the one that is used to hold liquid. So biblically, to be a vessel, it simply means to be the person who possesses some really important Christ-like qualities, which can attract others to Christ. In 2 Timothy 2: 19-21 19Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let everyone that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. 20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. 21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.
As God’s vessel, if you want to be the one that would be used of Him greatly, you must be like Jesus Christ. For you to make an impact in the life of others, you must first of all become a vessel full of impact yourself, and, your life and service would move to the next level. The Lord will grant you the vigour and strength to continue.
For you to become a worthy vessel, you must be ready to do the following
You must first be Empty, Clean and Available. It is only those who have purged themselves that the Lord would use. If you have not emptied yourself, you would be too full for the use of God.
You must be well fed by the word of God, be ready to Arise and Go. In Acts 2:2-3, the Apostles were waiting to receive greater strength, and while they were still seated in one accord in one place, the Holy Spirit came upon them from heaven as a rushing mighty wind, and the power filled the house where they were dwelling. Lo and behold, their ministry moved beyond all understanding. They launched out like never before, healing the sick, preaching like they never did. Also in 1 King 19:1-8, Elijah was growing weary and tired. He needed the strength to carry on. He needed God to give him a new vigour, so that the assignment God has given unto him could be finished.
You must be ready to do the extraordinary: In Acts 19:11-12, Paul was able to do great and mighty things, simply because he allowed himself to be used of God. In Acts 19:11-12 11 God did extraordinary miracles through Paul, 12 so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them.
You must be ready to pray: When you pray, you pray for others, pray for the work of God, and pray for the Ministers of God. Then you are fulfilling the purpose of your calling.
You must be ready to fast: Another way to become a vessel unto honour is to continue to seek the face of the Lord with fasting. In 2 Corinthians 11:27 – Paul states I fast often. 2 Gal 5:17 – The flesh lusteth against the spirit, that is why you have to fast often, because the flesh is at battle with the Holy Ghost, but when you fast, you will receive the extraordinary strength to continue to serve God.
You must be ready to be strengthened: In all of the points made above, it is important to be ready, if you must become a worthy vessel. You need to empty out all filthiness, all sins, and purge yourself. So that you can become fit for purpose, and fit for the master’s use. You must understand the need for constant worship (2 King 3:15-19). If you must minister unto others, you need to know how to ask the power of the Holy Spirit to come into your life to help you. When you are ready, and focussed, the Lord will make His power to come upon you, and you will go forward and perform greater assignments, minister unto souls, and be blessed of the Lord. So shall it be in Jesus’ name.
