Who Art Thou, Oh Woman? by Deaconess Adebisi Olobaniyi

ARE you a great mother or a passive mother? Is it all about me, myself and I? Or can God rely on you to affect generations to come positively? LYDIA: What was peculiar about her?

Acts 16:13 KJV[13] And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.

– On the Sabbath day, a day of rest, went for a prayer meeting. She did not stay at home, it was a group prayer meeting.

You may be asking yourself, do I need to attend prayer meetings?

Acts 16:14 KJV[14] And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us : whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.

– She was a merchant, not just any trader, but a seller of purple ( expensive item, Royalty) God can still make us business gurus. A busy lady, that has time for the things of God.

– The bible said which worshipped God, she was God fearing. Do we fear God? – God opened her heart, immediately she believed and was saved.

Our dear men, BROTHER Paul attended women’s prayer meetings, think about it. It’s a good thing to encourage our spouse, get involved in supporting them. They went with a mission.

Acts 16:15 KJV[15] And when she was baptised, and her household, she besought us , saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there . And she constrained us. she was baptised, and her household.

She had a family, probably men/ women servants. Her household obey her, they love her, they trust her, they were all baptised. She constrained us: compel or force towards a particular course.

To invite people to come and abide in your home, that is hospitality. Are you hospitable? Do they need to inform you months ahead to say they are coming. Check yourself, when last did you entertain angels?

Am not talking about those that will invite you back, your best buddies, no. Are you doing anything after church next week, do you mind coming home to dinner with us, especially people of the household of God. Not to gossip or back bite or delve into their personal life.

She was ready, not slothful, not lazy, there was food and a clean environment. She was rich in grace, glory and substance . God added salvation to her and her household. The moment she gave her life to Jesus, she became an instrument in God’s hand.

A blessing to the body of Christ. The bible said come into my house and abide there, Her home was a place of fellowship, she became blessed. Her name forever mentioned in the bible.

Acts 16:40 KJV[40] And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.

– You might say oh, she was zealous she just gave her life, but here Paul and Silas had gone to preach, went to prison and still came back to Lydia’s house.

– Hard working

-God fearing

– Hospitable
