The Helper of the helpless will assist you, by Pastor Samuel Obafaiye
God asked me to tell someone, I have given you all that it takes. Go in that power.
Psalms 10:12-14 – Arise, O Lord; O God, lift up thine hand: forget not the humble.
Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God? he hath said in his heart, Thou wilt not require it. Thou hast seen it; for thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with thy hand: the poor committeth himself unto thee; thou art the helper of the fatherless.
There are basically three types of help based on the nature of how they came.
1. Help from a fellow human being.
2. Help from some kind of a god.
3. Help from the Almighty God.
1. The truth is that it is only the help of the Almighty that has no flaw or regret. If someone helps you to do something you could do yourself. Tomorrow, he might insult you that you are very lazy. If someone help you to do what you couldn’t do, he might just take the glory.
2. If some gods help you to do something no one could do, they will add a sorrow to keep you coming back to them.
3. It is only God The Almighty that blesses and helps without adding any sorrow.
The life we live is that of frequent battles. It takes a great deal out of us. Energy and power are spent to live day by day. It will take the grace of God to renew our strength and prepare us for the engagements of another day.
2 Kings 3:1-27
So it happened that in 896 BC, Mesha king of Moab rebelled against Joram king of Israel. So Israel had to declare war against Moab. Otherwise, Moab will stop paying ransom. Other nations around will follow suit, one of them might even be courageous to proclaim war against Israel. So Israel needed help quickly.
What is it that is rebelling against you in life? One important thing to note is that you must be righteous before God. Joram was not, so he would have been defeated if he went to the battle alone.
He needed help desperately and because he wasn’t in good terms with God, he sought help from man. Though the person he went to is someone who was good and Godly.
However, there is a limit to the help of man. No matter how keen, powerful and compassionate the person might be, the extent of what they can do is limited.
Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom offered to be of help to Joram, but as they advance to battle, they encountered what was bigger than them. They discovered that they were going in circles in the desert; their ration and water expended; no site in view to refresh or restock; their soldiers are losing morale; the war has not even started; etc
At that point, Jehoshaphat senses came back to him, they were to inquire help from God, which they should have done earlier. The three kings went to Elisha to seek help from God.
The good news is that God does not forsake His own, because of Jehoshaphat, He came to the rescue of these Armies.
In less than 24 hours, water flowed abundantly in the desert from the wilderness of Edom. The people and the animal drank; they took reserves; and they regain strength.
Abide with me fast fall the even tide
The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide
when other helpers fail and comforts flee
Help of the helpless O abide with me
Jehoshaphat again was rescued by God in that battle. The Moabites thought he was the king of Israel, so pursued after him to kill him. He cried to God and he was delivered. He wanted to help the king of Israel, but he became helpless himself. The lot of the unjust will not rest on us in Jesus name. May God offer help to you. May God rescue you from any challenging situation.
David was someone that enjoyed the help of God throughout his lifetime. As a teenager, he was able to fight and kill lion, bear and Goliath of Gath. More so, with bare hands and catapult! In all the attacks of Saul regarding his life, the ascending of the throne in Judah, the attacks of Abner on his life, the ascending of the throne of the whole of Israel, the attacks of Absalom his son, together with threats of Joab and other external wars, it can only be the help of God that saw him through.
1 Samuel 23:19-28
Then came up the Ziphites to Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself with us in strong holds in the wood, in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of Jeshimon? Now therefore, O king, come down according to all the desire of thy soul to come down; and our part shall be to deliver him into the king’s hand. And Saul said, Blessed be ye of the Lord; for ye have compassion on me. Go, I pray you, prepare yet, and know and see his place where his haunt is, and who hath seen him there:for it is told me that he dealeth very subtilly. See therefore, and take knowledge of all the lurking places where he hideth himself, and come ye again to me with the certainty, and I will go with you:and it shall come to pass, if he be in the land, that I will search him out throughout all the thousands of Judah. And they arose, and went to Ziph before Saul:but David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon, in the plain on the south of Jeshimon. Saul also and his men went to seek him. And they told David:wherefore he came down into a rock, and abode in the wilderness of Maon. And when Saul heard that, he pursued after David in the wilderness of Maon. And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain:and David made haste to get away for fear of Saul; for Saul and his men compassed David and his men round about to take them.
But there came a messenger unto Saul, saying, Haste thee, and come; for the Philistines have invaded the land. Wherefore Saul returned from pursuing after David, and went against the Philistines:therefore they called that place Selahammahlekoth i.e Rock of Escape.
May God deliver you from anything that might be running after you. Your destiny shall not be terminated. May God disappoint anything that want to round you up.
Hezekiah is one of the few kings of Judah that sought The Lord during their reign. He did that which was good in the sight of The Lord. He encouraged the worship of Jehovah during his time.
In the course of his reign, Sennacherib king of Assyria came to fight Judah. He was a brutal king. He had no mercy. He always turn any place he attacked into ruins. When Hezekiah heard that Assyria had come, his people tried all they could in their power, and then put their trust in God.
In 2 Chro. 32:1-23, Sennacherib threatens all Judah and blasphemed against the Living God. He compared God to other gods of the land he and his father had destroyed. He boasted in his power and might. Hezekiah with prophet Isaiah however cried to God, and God sent an angel to destroy a great number of Sennacherib men of valour, so that he ran away to his nation in shame. His two sons later killed him!
May the same God that helped Hezekiah then help you today. May God end every threat against your life and threats against what you do. May God silence everything that is boasting against you. May God guide you on every side. May He magnify you in the sights of all men.
Sometimes when you are well prepared for an occurrence, you are able to do something about it. But when you are not prepared, you are left to the help of someone else. A number of times God has saved me from unprepared occurrences. Two examples from Liberia:
May God hide you in His palms. No serpent will disturb you in Jesus name.
As a young group, God ask me to again encourage you that He will help and assist you. Strength is not determined by smallness, it is determined by the power backing up the object. A small car can have a higher horsepower than a big car.
In Rev 3:8, Jesus said of the church at Philadelphia three attributes: they obey God, they didn’t deny God’s name, even though they were small in strength. As a result, He said He has set before them an opened door that no man can shut. I urge you to continue in obeying God and never deny His name. Watch and see the open doors that God has set for you. The Helper of the helpless will assist you.
Father, come to my rescue at all times.
Father, help me today, tomorrow and forever.
Father, let the open doors you have set before us remain perpetually opened.
There is a help you need presently. How it will happen you don’t know. But you really need it.
