Punishment/Curses, A Function of Your Disobedience, by Pastor Victor Olobaniyi

Last week we consider, Obedience as a function to your Rewards/blessings, this Sunday it will also be helpful to consider what we can get if we fail to obey the Lord’s commandments and instructions.
As we have blessings/rewards when we obey, so also we have punishments and even worse curses, if we likewise disobey the commandments of the Lord.

However, it is the perfect will of the Lord to always bless us all the time, that is, He is very happy if we can just obey Him all the time.
Deuteronomy 30 vs 15-20, confirms His will for us.
There are quite a few people in the Bible that disobeyed the commandments of the Lord, and face the punishments and were even cursed for their disobedience.

The first we shall be considering is, Adam and Eve. In the book of Genesis 3, God commanded them of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat Genesis 2 vs 16 but in vs 17 He told them not to eat of the tree of the Knowledge of good and evil, but they went ahead and disobeyed that commandment and eventually punishment and curses followed as was recorded in the book of Genesis 3.

Another person we can have a look at is the great prophet Moses, in Numbers 20 vs 8-12 where God commanded him to speak unto the rock for the water to come out, but he disobeyed by striking the rock, and his punishment was that he was prevented from getting to the promised land.

The third person we shall be considering is King Saul. 1Samuel 15 vs 13- 23. There was the commandment of the Lord for Saul to destroy everything, but he decided to spear some, and from that he was rejected from being the king.
There are consequences of disobedience which includes,

Lost of relationship with God- Spiritual separation and consequently final damnation if care is not taken. Genesis 3 vs 24
Punishments and Curses are incurred. Gen 3 vs 16-19, Malachi 3 vs 7-9
Spirit of fear takes over. Genesis 3 vs 10.
Precious pursuits are forfeited. Numbers 20 vs 12.
To mention but a few.

My prayers is that we shall continue to be in the group of those that will always obey the commandments of the Lord so that we can be partakers of His rewards and blessings in Jesus mighty name.

Stay blessed.
