May God Show You Kindness, by Pastor (Mrs) Anthonia Obafaiye

The theme of the month of is God’s kindness.
I looked up the meaning of kindness and I came up with some very interesting words, it means “being considerate, a helpful act, being friendly, showing pure love, gentleness, sweetness, being generous and hospitable”.
According to Galatians 5:22, Kindness is a fruit of the Spirit, so kindness is a nature and essence of God.
Psalm 100:5 tells us that The Lord is good, and His mercy (the New American Standard Bible says His loving kindness) endures forever, it has no end because God is God and He cannot deny Himself.
Psalm 117:2 (NASB) says For His loving kindness is great towards us.

Our salvation is the very first gesture of kindness we received from God. John 3:16 & Romans 5:8 God loved us even whilst we were yet sinners and sent His son to die for us. The Bible in Jeremiah 31:3 refers to this love as an Everlasting love (it has no end and never changes with situations; it is not a fair weather love). It is not the kind of love we get because we deserve, or merit it or are worthy of, but because God decided to count us or qualify us worthy through the righteousness of His son our Lord Jesus. That is why the Bible says not by works lest any man should boast, but solely by the grace of God.

It is also interesting to know that salvation is a call, a call we answer not because we choose to but because the Spirit of God drew us near unto God. John 15:16 ‘Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you. So in other words I did not choose God but he chooses me by drawing me closer to Himself with His Kindness.

The Bible says many are called but few are chosen, may we always be amongst the chosen of God at all times in Jesus name. I say May God always show you kindness in Jesus name.

Our first example of someone God showed kindness is found in the Bk of John 5:1-15
The man by the Pool of Bethesda, the Bible makes us to understand that he had an infirmity for 38 years and all that time he had been close to his miracle but he never received or tasted it because no one showed him kindness and he could not help himself either. For a certain season an angel troubled the waters and whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he/she had.

But a day came like never before, the bible says on this particular day Jesus went up to Jerusalem and as he was going he passed through this pool, just like He has come today to show kindness to someone in a Jesus name.

You know the Bible says in a Psalm 102:13 ‘Thou shalt arise and have mercy (show kindness) upon Zion, for the time to favour her, yea the set time, is come’.
May The Lord show kindness to you in Jesus name.
The Bible says Jesus went to no one else but this man, tell your neighbour Jesus has come for me today, because he saw him lie (helpless) and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he asked him, ‘do you want to get well’ (Good News Translation).

Brethren as usual just like some of us would normally do, he began to tell stories, a simple question that required a simple yes or no answer, but thank God for His loving kindness because it over-looked the stories and the lack of faith (maybe the man had become like this because of his long standing challenge, you know some certain situations in our lives can make us begin to speak certain languages) The Lord will help us in Jesus name. Jesus over-looked what the man said and said to him, Rise, take up thy bed and walk, and immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed and walked and on the same day was the Sabbath.

May The Lord show you kindness, may He single you out of the crowd and favour you in a Jesus name.

Our second example will be taken from the Bk of Luke 13:11-13

The Bible makes us to understand that Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath day, just like today, today is our Sabbath and we are all sat here in His presence.
May The Lord show us kindness today, may He not pass us by today, may we not leave here the way we came today in a Jesus name.

Brethren while our Lord Jesus was teaching, He lifted up His eyes and Behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity 18 years, and bowed together, and in no wise lift up herself, so she could not look up to see neither could she see the sun. When Jesus saw her, he called her to him and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. He laid His hands on her and immediately she was made straight and glorified God.

Brethren there are lessons to learn from these examples from the Bible:

1) We need to pray for mercy at all times, the grace to heed God’s call at all times, the bible says many are called but few are chosen. Brethren God is Lord to all but Father to a few (the ones that accept Him as Father). He says in His word in 2 Corinthians 6:17-18 ‘Wherefore come out from among them, and touch not the unclean thing and I will receive you. And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith The Lord Almighty.

2) In the Book of Ecclesiastes 9:11 (NLT)
I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner does not always win the race and the strongest warrior does not always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry and the skilful are not necessarily wealthy. And the educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time.

Brethren I will encourage and admonish us to pray for the grace to be in the right place at the right time always, no matter our situation or challenge, never let whatever challenge you have, cause you to become angry at God, who will help you any way, the Bible says the arm of flesh will fail us, it says yet again ‘ I will lift up my eyes to the holy hills, where will my help come from, my help comes from God, the maker of heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1

The impotent man and the woman with the infirmity were not discouraged by their situations, not to be where they were supposed to be, the right place at the right time. They received their blessings and kindness from God on the Sabbath day where Jesus was. Whatever happens to you in life never leave the presence of God, it always ends in disaster, it will not be our portion in Jesus name.

What am I trying to say here, in life the way you have positioned yourself matters if you want God to show you kindness, David was at the backside of the desert, at his duty post when kindness came calling for him. All his brothers and his Father were at home, they even forgot him but heaven did not forget him. Prophet Samuel when he found out that Papa Jesse still had one son left, he told him you better send for him and be quick because we will not sit down until he comes. On day of your kindness heaven will remember you in Jesus name.

3) The Kindness (favour & mercy) of a God totally transforms our lives. There is something about the kindness of a God, it wipes away years of sorrow, struggling, tears, pain, shame, failure, agony, disappointment, it restores totally. We have countless examples from the Bible and real life testimonies from our present days of God’s loving kindness.

God is indeed good and His mercies (His loving kindness) endure forever. He said in His word that His loving kindness He will not take away from us.
May The Lord show you kindness in Jesus name.
