Loveth Me More Than These?, by Pastor Victor Olobaniyi
TEXT:John 21 vs 1-17.
As we know we are still in the month of our Lord’s goodness which the anchor test is Jeremiah 32 vs 40-41.
It may be necessary that we know that there are ways we can act and things to obey to make sure that the Lord’s goodness always abide with us, and we become a perpetual beneficiary of this His lovable goodness.
Goodness is one of the various attribute and character of God, so as soon as you are His child, then His goodness is always available to you, as that is part of the package of becoming a child of God, you need not to pay for His goodness towards you ever again.
Before mentioning some of the ways in which we can keep the goodness of the Lord all the days of our life, let us talk briefly on our bible passage of today.
John 21 vs 1-17. Talked about the appearance of Jesus about the 3rd time to His disciples after His resurrection.
Peter was a person that has a personal relationship with God and has in number of times witnessed the Lord’s goodness at various capacities as it were.
Peter abandoned the assignment of Jesus and I will say returned back to his old profession, forgetting the fact that Jesus said in last part of John 15 vs 5 that without Me ye can do nothing.
It’s rather sad that before the intervention of Jesus , he has also made others to abandoned the great commission of the work of reconciliation that the Lord Jesus committed into the hands of His disciples.
Mark 16 vs 15, Matthew 28 vs 19.
Jesus said if any man love Him , the person will keep His commandments. John 14 vs 15.
Peter was asked three times in the passage by Jesus if he loves Him. Then he should feed His Lamb and Sheep.
It was obvious that Peter felt very bad about the question and the number of times Jesus asked him, but sadly enough we are also guilty of this same offence, as we have all abandoned our first love for Christ and now running after mundane things that the Lord promised us after first doing His will, by seeking first the kingdom of God.
Jesus said to Peter Loveth thou Me more than these?
Same question Jesus Christ is asking us now, as His commissioned disciples, Loveth thou me more than your Family and Children, your career, your Job, your Parents, your money, your belongings(house, cars, jewels),your time and pleasures, more than your mobile phones, to mention but a few,if we are deficient in any of these, then Peter’s case is a lesson as we have not also pass Jesus test as it were, then there is need for repentance.
Ways to reciprocate the Lord’s goodness in our life, as He laid down His life for us, in John 3 vs 16. Is
Preach the gospel as commanded, which is the ministry of reconciliation, Mark16vs15, John 14 vs15 & 21, John 15 vs 10-15. The heartbeat of God is salvation, salvation and salvation, so by witnessing you are reciprocating His goodness towards you.
Get actively involved in the work of the ministry. Matthew 12 vs 30, 9 vs 37.Redeeming the time as the days are evil.Ephesians 5 vs 16.
