Anchor Text: 2 Peter 3
Everything on earth has a time attached to it. Eccl 3:1 and events happening at a particular time suggests to man what the season it is. For instance, a man making a journey knows when he is very near his destination because there will be features signalling he is close.
What does this mean to Christians?
The implications of this for Christians is that we know what times we are in and the necessary preparation we must make in such times.
What times are we in?
End of the world -1 Cor 10:1-11
Latter times-1 Tim 4:1
Last days-2 Tim 3:1
We should not be deceived about these times; they have come already even though things continue to be what they were many years ago (2 Peter 3:5). Advancements of peace and coalition policies by global governments and organisations will not change anything but rather culminate in the return of our Lord and Saviour.
What should our attitude be, Christians?
Having known the times we are in and the inevitability of Christ’s return, our disposition as Christians should be such that will portray our preparedness for Him. The bible admonishes us to do the following among others:
Be sober and vigilant-1 Peter 5:8
Be ready and expectant of His glorious appearance-Titus 2:13; 2 Peter 3:13
Live sensibly, decently, righteously and godly in this present world-Titus 2:12
Be diligent in their services to God-2 Peter 3:14
Be a man of peace, holy and blameless in all manners-Heb 12:14, 2 Peter 3:14
Put your life, house, ministry in order-Isaiah 38:1
Win souls, teach and make disciples for Christ-Matt 28:19-20
Grow in the grace and knowledge of God through the Holy Spirit-2 Peter 3:18; Dan. 11:32
Examine ourselves to be sure we are still in Christ-Gal 5: 24; 2 Cor 13:5
The truth is that Christians should not assume they are in Christ but constantly check deep down in their spirits matched with outward disposition to confirm whether or not their anchor is still gripping firmly on the Solid Rock as the old hymn questions.
May the Lord uphold us all with His hands and keep us from falling at the verge of seeing His glorious appearance. Amen.
