Great and effectual doors are opened to you, by Pastor Samuel Obafaiye
What is a door? A way; a passage; an opening; an entrance; an access route; an escape route.
May God make a way for you. May He grant you a safe passage through life. May He create an opening for you. May He grant you entrance into blessing. An access route to breakthrough. An escape route out of trouble in Jesus name.
1 Corinthians 16:5-9
Now I will come unto you, when I shall pass through Macedonia: for I do pass through Macedonia. And it may be that I will abide, yea, and winter with you, that ye may bring me on my journey whithersoever I go. For I will not see you now by the way; but I trust to tarry a while with you, if the Lord permit. But I will tarry at Ephesus until Pentecost. For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.
It is one thing for a door of opportunity to be opened to someone. It is another thing for it to be a great one. Certainly, it is something else for it to be effectual one also.
Paul was planning to go to Corinth through Macedonia, but he said the trip has to be postponed because he sensed a great and effectual door has been opened to him in Ephesus where he was.
What makes the door great?
Ephesus was a populous city. Full of prospects for people. Filled with influential people. It was the gateway to Asia. Lots of tourists and merchants come to Ephesus.
York is a popular and ancient city. Lots of tourists visit York. International students in two Universities also come and go. It is a great door for gospel outreach. We have the opportunity to shape destinies, mould characters, raise Godly seeds, affect the eternity of people, rebuild society, etc.
What makes the door effectual?
It has positive potentials on the gospel of Jesus. The impact can be measured. It is result oriented. Ephesus has the great temple of Artemis built for goddess Diana. It brought lots of tourists to Ephesus.
The city is filled with immorality, prostitution, magic, sorcery, witchcraft, superstitions, etc.
It was also a safe place for criminals. Criminals were not always arrested or tried. Robbers and other criminals hang around the temple.
Various ethnics and languages were present in Ephesus which had come from many places who in turn will take the gospel to far distances.
There were also Jewish believers after the order of John the Baptist, false teaches and non-religious people there.
These and many more made Ephesus an effectual city for evangelism to Paul.
The city of York is an effectual ground for evangelism for us too.
It has a great cathedral. It also has a popular Bishop. But many of the populace are far from salvation.
Note that the door will always be opened by God, but it is our responsibility to walk through it. Paul said the door has been opened to him. Not that he has opened the door by himself. When God opens, no man can shut. But we must be prepared to enter the opened doors.
We must know that oppositions abide wherever there is an opened door. Where there are opportunities, their exist challenges.
Especially where sinners are being saved and saints are being deified, Satan will not be happy. So he will certainly oppose.
There were several challenges in Ephesus regarding their spiritual and social state, but Paul saw that the opportunities outweighed the problem and stayed.
– It was in Ephesus that 12 disciples of John the Baptist got born again and received the Holy Ghost.
– It was through this stay that all Jews and Greeks who lived in the province of Asia got to hear the word of God.
– It was here that God did extraordinary miracles through Paul, so that handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched his body were sent out to the sick and the possessed, and they were healed.
– It was in Ephesus that the seven sons of Sceva were dealt with by a demon possessed man, so that people feared and honoured God.
– It was here that God silenced Demetrius producer of silver shrines of Artemis. So that rioters that were calling for the end of Paul and Christianity were dissolved miraculously.
Paul stayed for close to three years in Ephesus taking over the cities around for Christ.
What are the doors God has opened to you? There will certainly be oppositions to them. Focus on the opportunities and neglect the challenges. You will see what The Lord will do through you.
Note that there is a time and season for everything under the heavens. God has time He has apportioned for things to be done on earth. He may want to permit access to certain thing within a given time. He might also choose to close the door to that window within a period of time. If one does not make use of the door when it is opened by God, it will be too late when it is closed by Him.
God says He has opened great and effectual doors regarding His work to you in York. He has also opened doors to you regarding your life pursuits. May you enjoy those opportunities in Jesus name.
Are you losing hope regarding something?
And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope: and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.
Are you in doubt regarding something? Is your faith shaky?
And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.
Are you timid to declare the word of God? Are you apprehensive about an interview?
Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:
Are you believing God for Supernatural breakthrough?
I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.
– Door of gospel to Gentiles first opened through Peter to the house of Cornelius – Acts 10:1-end.
– Door of gospel to Africa first opened through Philip to the Ethiopian eunuch – Acts 8:26.
– Door of gospel to Europe opened to Paul – Acts 16:9-15).
How to enjoy opened doors
1. Do not compromise your faith – Philadelphia church (Acts 3:8).
2. Be observant and sensitive – Mordecai (Esther 2:21-22).
3. Walk through without delay – Jephtar (Judges 11:4-11).
4. Pray that God will sustain the door till you are done – Joshua (Jos 10: 12-13).
Father, remove anything that might not want me to enjoy opened doors in Jesus name.
Father, open my eyes to see the doors of opportunity you have opened to me.
Father, help me not to be sluggish before my breakthrough.
Father, please keep my breakthrough doors open till I have passed through them.
