John 14.13-14: “And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it.”
Whilst reflecting further on John 14.13-14 for this month let us consider the background to God’s claims, promises and assurances to us in those verses of scripture.
At the time of this promise, Jesus had a long relationship, meant to be permanent, with his twelve disciples. They had already spent more than three years together. He had been teaching them, taking care of them and answering their questions. They had no doubt he was the Messiah, The Son of God, The Anointed One, and The Lamb of God that would be slaughtered to take away the sin of the world. But they were yet unsure of all the details.
